Martinez Crit and Redlands Crit

On Friday morning Jeremiah, Justin, Peter and I set off to drive 500 miles north to Martinez, California...I small city right near San Fransisco to do a 8000 dollar crit hosted by the city of Martinez and Shell Oil Company.

This race had a awesome small town, superweek crit feel to it and I enjoyed it!!
We met out other two teammates Kevin and Adam aka the "cyclopedia"
Well anyways we had six guys and we went there to make as much money as possible. Early in the race I noticed that my seat felt really funny, it felt as if I was on a midget bike and there it was, my seat on my brand new bike had falling down to the bottom.

My upper hip hurt so bad from the peddling motion but I had to stick it out. Jeremiah raced super hard and before you know it, he was off the front just over half way through with a Strawberry Giant guy, Bmp, Bissell and someone else. Two laps later they had a 20 second gap that look to be promising.

A few laps later I had Kevin to take a hard pull and people were so tired I knew when he set up they would as well and I launched a super hard effort that took me to the break 1 lap later.
.....but boy, when I got that I was super gassed!!
Jeremiah and Scott Zwizansk from Bissell pretty much attacked each other the whole break and left the rest of us wondering how do they do that. With one to go,  Jeremiah made his winning move surprising the group half a lap out to take the win. I finished 3rd and Kevin ended up 13th.

I should have pics to follow this post...stay tuned.

ill be back for Redlands crit....got my hands full right now....

Mr. Bahati: I can't believe you were up here racing and didn't tell us, your bay area fans, you were going to be in town! Please let us know when you're racing in the bay area! And, I spoke to Dev this weekend and he says you just added a new room to the home! Three bedrooms total; you are quite the carpenter! HEHE! Congrats!

I dont know that brothers name, but hes a really good bike racer. I bet you he's 50+ but just look good for his age. He took a pull in that race with me on his wheel and boi, did he put some hurting on my legs....Much respect.

LOL!  That gives me some hope - the guy's age, that is!  I'm 41 years young and KNOW I look good for my age and the fitness is coming around pretty fast so I can see myself mixing it up with the 1 and 2s in a couple years.  Maybe I'll let you sit on my wheel...to see if you can hang!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!

That is Paul Penn, he has to be around 45-46 or so.  He's been racing atleast since '87.

RB:
I've known Paul Penn for years, he and I used to race on "Team Focal" together, a N. Cal team. "Focal" was the cat 2/3/4/5 version of Rock Racing back in the day as we were a very diverse team. Paul did, and does, train like there is no tomorrow, he puts in the mega miles, and he's always in great shape. Devon used to train with him a bit when he turned pro, but Devon said Paul trained to hard for him! Paul is good people and a very well respected bike racer.

Yep, I did training rides with Paul many times.  LOL..he always went fast even when just rolling out from the house during "warm up".  BTW, "Focal" aka Team Extreme is still rolling out these days.  We rocked the black kits way back in '98 when no one else dared to!
