Just because the Lords my Sheppard, don’t mean I gotta be no sheep.
A Nice guy with a Winning Attitude
So I do the Westchester parkway race right next to the Los Angeles
International Airport on Sunday and it was going to be a good training
do for me. We’ve been having some very strong winds in our area and on
my out way there it took me about 2 hours to ride 20 miles. That’s how
windy it was…head wind the whole way.
So we have pretty much a full squad to race this local race. Leo
Grande, Hamilton, Wescovitch, Magnail, Hernandez, Carroll, Clinger,
Williams, Curry, and I…did I miss anyone?
But…. yeah so we are doing the cigar shaped 100k circuit race and after
making a move to a break, we make the u-turn and Tyler Hamilton is just
going crazy in the headwind and I’m just trying hold on as another
group of guys are coming across. I ducked in for cover right in front
of a friend of mine, Armen and we bump a little and he yelled at me and
I yelled at him and I lost that battle so I tucked in behind him.
But here we go….now I hear some ass hole yelling…”RASWAAN YOU’RE A
FUCKING IDIOT” . Only people who don’t know me call’s me Raswaan. My
name is Rahsaan, Pronounced (ra-sun) …get it right.
Anyways…can anyone guess who this big guy was? But of course none other than a 5 star ***.
I tried…. lord knows I tried to move pass my little situation with
those guys…. and for the record, its not all of them, just a few and
especially this tall lanky guy that I have never seen do anything in a
bike race…. I think it’s the same guy from last year who said I was a
cheater and I horned his teammates bars .
So back to the race, as this guy is yelling at me Armen and I both
turned around and said…SHUT UP, it was pretty funny because I guess he
thought Armen would jump on the band wagon with him and maybe fight me
or something. Little did he know Armen and I are friends…idiot.
So the race is coming down to a field sprint and we have the whole team
on the front in the head wind section going like 18 miles an hour and
right before we make the u-turn to head down to the sprint with the
tail wind, Toyota United had five guys just dropped the hole field with
one serge…I was impressed. I didn’t even get a chance to sprint and I
hit 72kph. Kayle held on for 3rd and Toyota took 1-2. I’m so tired of
racing with 10-12 guys and we don’t win. I told the team our chances
are better when we only race like a normal team and have 6-7 guys, that
way the responsibly is on that core group. We race with 12 guys and the
job of controlling the race gets lost in the shuffle and its pretty
embarrassing when you don’t win. We should have won all the races we
done this year and M. Ball agrees with me.
So I leave the race to complete my 5 1/2 hr (193k's) day and 1hr away
from home...I bunked really hard. I realized I hadn't ate anything
since 7:30 that morning. I pull over to this gas station and ate like a
pig. I got a turkey sandwich, king size kitkat, a extra large monster,
apple danish and a mars bar..... waited like 10 minutes for it to kick
in and I flew home after that!!!
Moving on to another local race, then San Dimas and on to Redlands.
