Sea Sick of 5 Star Fish

This weekend I did a total of 3 races that started in Dana Point, Woodland Hills and the always boring Long Beach Crit.
I don’t want to entertain much about what you’re going to read so ill try and make it very brief.
I guess I would say it started at Dana Point race on Saturday when I got into a Break early in the race with 3 other guys 1 being from 5 star fish ( a local team) and I did more sitting on than pulling because I just didn’t feel that good and I'm smart enough to know my limits and not drop myself from a break because I have to much pride. So...whatever. 5 Star won the race Kayle LeoGrande was second and I was 7th.

Sunday over in Woodland Hills, with about 4-5 to go, you know (well if your a real pro bike racer) you know things start to get a little hairy and people take more risk to hold position and "fighting" for a wheels is not "illegal" as one of 5 star riders called it.

Yes I did fight for a wheel and yes ill do it again. “It’s Bike Racing”.

I never ever take my hands of the bars to make a move or do anything that is unsportsmanlike, however when I bumped handle bars with one of the 5 star guys he took his hands off the bars and pushed me. Did I…?

A) Cry to the Referees?

B) Yell Stop Cheating?

C) Push him back?

D) Tell him to never take his hands off the bars, while pointing at him?

Or

E) Ignored him?

If you picked D, your right. I just let him know the next time I won’t be so nice and I proceeded with my race.
The end results Rock Racing stole the show by taking 1st 2nd 3rd and 5th….where was 5 star? Oh I just checked it was one of the guys I do respect on that team and that’s Paul Chi and the other is Anthony Morrow.

After the race I see the whole 5 star team at the judge’s stand and it’s pretty obvious they are launching a protest. 10 minutes later a uscf official finds me and ask me what happen. I told my story and right at the end when it’s very clear she’s not buying my story a rider from SDBC ( which name I will not say) came over and said “they are just a bunch of girls and Rahsaan and his team did nothing wrong”. So now the official says...”okay ill put you back in the results because I had already taking you out”.  I owe you one, you know who you are.

Now to Sunday, I’m minding my own business and some skinny guy from the 5 star team walked up to me while I’m registering my self and says “ you know what, you should stop racing if you cant win clean”. He goes on to say that I “horned” his teammate’s bars. I ask him to explain “horned” and he said “ you put your bars into his bars”.

So I made it clear to him right away that I’m a professional bike racer and getting your bars “horned” as he called it happens all the time and especially toward the end of the race when everyone is fighting for position. And my last words to him where…” sense you came over here crying to me, ill make sure I hook the *** out of you and your whole team when ever I get a chance. I threw my pin at him and left.  I sure hope they go to Super Week, because everyone and there mommy will punk them. Wait till some Australian guys get a hold of them…lol

They need to stop eating all that fish and eat some beef. I heard beef gives you balls.

Man, you have got to watch your "horn?" usage. This rider has got a rude awakening coming if they are worried about "being touched" in the field. And please, do not encourage them to come to Superweek. Their going to get "horned?" for sure.

Story sounds familiar.Hate to play the card but if somebody else does it it's skill and tactics but if you know who does it then its called nasty riding.Brush ur shoulders off.Focus on the white and the black ..the finish line and I'll try to do the same.

God Job today!  It's time to stop beating up on and worrying about the local guys.

Just a few questions...
Who won on Saturday (the biggest of the three races)?
How did you throw that "pin"?
Do you realize that Paul (the 5 Star rider you respect) was the one who started the protest on Sunday?
If you are a "pro" racer, why do you have to play dirty to win at local races?

My post should say "good" job today.  See what you do nephew, your page makes me make typos.  I guess I was just happy for you and I was trying to type that post while calling Carla to tell her to call you.

Congrats on winning CSC, Rahsaan!  Great win, and you're a great rider.  I thought you got a bit aggressive last Sunday . . . no problem with the first 2 hits, but I felt that you put your bars inside mine and tried to take my front wheel out.  I've got no problem with contact, but I thought that last move went far beyond fighting for the wheel.  In any event, I did not protest it.  I understood that someone else was protesting another incident, but I was not aware that any complaint was made on my behalf.  I certainly did not lodge it.

In all the years I've been racing, I've never felt that someone was intentionally trying to take me down.  You are one of the best -- if not the best -- bike handler I've seen, and if I misundertood your move than I apologize for getting so pissed.  You guys beat us straight up and I have nothing but respect for you and your teammates.  I hope the remainder of the year brings you and your team successes similar to your win at CSC.  Well done!

I truly appreciate your post. After I left my last comment about the incident, I wasn't going to comment anymore.
I have never ever tried to crash a rider while racing or training. Never ever. I do ride aggressive at times but I’m still a gentleman and ride sportsmanlike and its what I have to do to remain sharp to be a field sprinter at a pro level, which as you know is a hard job.

Like I said before, we all have something in common and I'm friends with a lot of my competition on the pro and local level but when it comes to racing, I have to put my friendships aside. Ivan Dominguez, which is one of my best friends, will fight me for a wheel and the same goes for Henk Vogels, Hilton Clarke, and many other riders. I can’t get pissed because they want to win as much as I do and fighting for a wheel or horning bars is part of the game.

Again I really appreciate your post and now we can proceed with our racing.
