(Super bowl Sunday) It was one whole week that I was forced to stay off my bike. I was so sick; I stayed in bed for four days. One week later, I have a stage race in Arizona and I forced myself to ride my bike before leaving this past Thursday.
We left Los Angeles heading for Az for Valley of The Sun Stage Race and with expectations to win.
The T-T’s. As all of you know, I’m no time trail guy, however I really want to be a whole lot better at them and especially in the flatter ones like Fridays TT.
I had an aero scott bike, but I didn’t have wheels or aero helmet. 2 miles into the 14 miles TT my right shifter broke off and I was stuck in my 53x11 for the rest of the TT.
I finished 3:55 seconds behind the leader.
Day two 89miles RR
The last time I did this RR, within the 2nd lap, I had to give up my wheel for then teammate Ivan Dominguez. All I remember is that I road 60 miles by myself so I can start that next day.
It was so windy yesterday that we really crawled for such a long time. We had head wind and cross wind on the flats and tail winds on the hill. This made for the climb to be taken at 26-30mph. I’m not kidding you, the winds were so strong we where going so fast over the hill and it hurt so bad. After the first time over the hill, we lost 30% of the group and each lap we continued to lose riders. The race strategy was to get Kayle into a move so he could bring back some time on the leaders jersey. On lap three we got our chance by putting Kayle and Jeremiah into a good break but was later wheeled in because the group did have the motivation to make it work. With two to go, I continued to cover moves and maybe get into a break that would work, but it never happened. Rudy attacked and got away with one lap to go and later was joined by David Clinger and a group of about 9 was formed with 20k to go. They did stay away to the finish but was only ablet to get 6th place after a hard, dry and windy day in the saddle.
So Sunday we are looking forward to being more aggressive and getting a stage win.
Ill check back in.
